Tom “May” Menzinger’s “Best Of 2010” list!

Not to get carried away with this whole Tumblr thing, but I didn’t want our beloved homie Tom to have his “Best Of” list made in vain.  Ya see, Tom’s list was also snubbed by Punknews.org and never saw the light of day.  I mean, what does that website have against The Menzingers?!?  Some personal beef I would guess.  Well we rescued his list off the internet scrap heap, and here it is, unedited to preserve it’s integrity:

1. Two Worlds - Tigers Jaw
2. Titus Andronicus - The Monitor
3. Stornoway - Beachcomber’s Windowsill
4. Fake Problems - Real Ghosts Caught on Tape
5. The Flatliners - Cavalcade
6. Against Me! - White Crosses
7. The Gaslight Anthem - American Slang
8. Holy Mess - Benefit Sesh 7”/ Captain, We’re Sinking/Timeshares Split 7” (if you listen to them in a row it counts as a full length)
9. Dangers - Messy, Isn’t It?
10. Off With Their Heads - In Desolation

Top five biggest regrets/broken promises:

1. Cut down the drinking to twice a week
2. One month stint as a vegetarian (not sure if I regret not following through, or regret actually trying it at all, either way I know I regret it)
3. Self-Destructing a promising relationship……twice…….three times
4. FUCKING JARED!!
5. Cut down the drinking to three times a week

Toby’s “Best Of” list for 2010 (outlawed on most sites)

I made a “Best Of” list for 2010 because, ya know, at least ONCE a year I like to say something nice and give bands props.  We don’t want this shit going to their heads, now do we?  Dealing with bands is, as they say, like herding cats and the more you…oh, nevermind.  Okay okay, it OFFICIALLY starts on the next paragraph…GO!

So I wanted to have a Top 13 to honor my current favorite soccer player and Torjäger supreme, Thomas Müller. But fuck, somehow I ended up with 15? Hmmm. Well anyhow, I excluded any releases on my own label because only a jackoff would do that and we all know that shit’s the best anyhow. So here it is: The Only List That Matters. And why should you trust me? Cuz I’ve been saying Vampire Weekend was dogshit since day one.

15. UK tour with The Lawrence Arms - My first run-in with Buckfast. Met so many great people…even in Ireland!

 14. Iron Chic “Not Like This” - Never mind all the hype, this is a solid record.

13. Punch “Push Pull” - What can I say, I’m partial to bands that come outta SF.

12. Kid Cudi “Man On The Moon, Vol. II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager” - Just when you thought The Sidekicks were Cleveland’s most nefarious party boys, along comes this guy…

11. Off With Their Heads “In Desolation” - This band keeps meeting expectations. Bonus points for especially entertaining Tweets.

10. Justin Townes Earle “Harlem River Blues” - One would think this album would be more popular since it’s so cool to name-check Cash, Springsteen, and Americana. Turns out y’all are a buncha posers.

9. E-40 “Revenue Retrievin’: Day Shift & Night Shift” - This veteran rapper gets criticized for having a dated sound and old-school beats, but that’s why I like it. 90s hip-hop FTW!

8. The Gaslight Anthem “American Slang” - Maybe I’m weird, but I think this is their best full length.

7. The Hextalls “Get Smashed” - Western Canada does a few things really well: hosting the Olympics, displacing Native Americans, and Ramonesy pop-punk.

6. David Cross “Bigger and Blackerer” - Regarding poor, dumb hilljacks who are opposed to the Public Option, Ya know what, I don’t want you to have healthcare. I want you to die.

5. Alkaline Trio “This Addiction” - Recording at Atlas Studios was a good call. I think Fine is my favorite Alk3 song right now.

4. Swingin’ Utters and The Menzingers at Mad Planet in Milwaukee - Wasted on arrival due to legal drinking on the train. Got to hear the Utters play Sign It Away for the first time in like 12 years.

3. Devo “Something For Everybody” - As to be expected, the production is pretty insane, but it’s still Devo and it’s still super fun.

2. Against Me! “White Crosses” - My favorite album of the year made that much more enjoyable by the fact that most other people hate it.

1. Psychedelic Furs at Metro in Chicago - Who says saxophones ruin good music? Don’t answer that…this show was so awesome and they sounded great. Nothin’ but hits.

I’ll tumble for ya…

Anyone ever made THAT joke around here?  Huh?!?  So, this is the “Tumblr” page for Red Scare Industries, a fine label that primarily dabbles in punk rock.

Because we just can’t have enough social networking sites…
